Overdenture Teeth
Dental implants are now a treatment for all types of edentulism, from a single unit to complete jaw restoration, and with proper care, it can last a lifetime. One type of dental implant for complete edentulism of one or both jaws is the overdenture based on dental implants.
What is an implant-supported overdenture?
An implant-supported overdenture is an alternative to traditional dentures. Instead of relying on the gums and soft tissue, it is anchored on multiple implant posts, eliminating issues like looseness, difficulty chewing, stability, and speaking.
Overdentures can be either fixed or removable, and the crown portion resembles a traditional denture, connecting to one or more implant posts.
Overdentures are particularly suitable for individuals who have lost all the teeth in one or both jaws, requiring only a few dental implant posts.

Benefits of Overdentures
Overdentures are a replacement for traditional dentures that can address many of the issues commonly associated with them. Overdentures combine the benefits of dental implants with the advantages of removable dentures. Some of the benefits of overdentures include:
Stability and no looseness
With proper care, they can last a lifetime
Easy to maintain
Due to the need for fewer implant posts, they are cost-effective
Preservation of bone and gums, preventing their resorption
Less food accumulation under the gums and prosthesis
Types of Overdentures
The more implant posts that support the overdenture, the less looseness and greater stability you will have. The number of implants is determined by your dentist based on your bone structure and budget.
There are two types of overdentures: fixed and removable. The distinction between the two is how the dentures are attached to the implants. In the removable type, the crowns can be removed by the patient, while in the fixed type, this is not possible.
Who is suitable for overdentures?
- Individuals with extensive tooth loss
- Individuals who are tired of the problems associated with traditional dentures
- Individuals with enough bone structure for overdentures
- Individuals who value their health and the quality of their treatment
Difference Between Overdentures and Dentures
The main difference between overdentures and traditional dentures is their support system. Overdentures are supported by implant posts, whereas traditional dentures rest on the gum tissue. This difference contributes to increased durability, stability, and overall quality of overdentures compared to regular dentures.
Overdenture Treatment Steps:
- Visit a specialist for evaluation of your condition
- Develop a treatment plan and schedule the surgery
- Perform the surgery and implant placement
- Create the overdenture prosthesis
- Allow the implants to integrate and place the overdentures

Price of Overdentures
The number of implant posts required for overdentures depends on the quality of the bone, the patient’s budget, and the dentist’s assessment. Therefore, the cost of overdentures can vary.
Advantages of Overdentures Compared to Traditional Dentures:
- Durability
- Longevity
- Better chewing and speaking ability
- Prevents bone and gum resorption
What is Cobalt Chrome Partial Denture?
Cobalt chrome partial dentures are a type of removable dental prosthesis. These dentures have been used for many years to treat edentulism, especially for patients missing posterior teeth (molars) who lack the necessary support for fixed dentures. Cobalt chrome partial dentures are also suitable for those who prefer not to use a fixed dental prosthesis.
These dentures are made of acrylic and a metal alloy, primarily containing chromium and cobalt. The acrylic represents the gum portion of the denture (the pink area). Due to the metallic appearance of the clasps, which some patients find unappealing, newer versions of partial dentures are designed with metal-colored clasps that blend with the natural color of the teeth. These are referred to as Flexite partial dentures.
